Magnum is pleased with the new restaurant operator

Management is also pleased to announce that substantial discussions have begun regarding expanding the facilities at the airport. This will be the largest investment since the construction of the terminal.

Magnum Management is working with the British Columbia Air Access Program and local government on the details for improvements which we believe will enhance the local businesses and attract new complimentary businesses to the airport community.

"We would like the aviation community to know that we are open for business," says Garry Atkins, General Manager and APM of Chilliwack Airport.

The project will have five main elements:

- Extension of the runway by 1000 feet to 1,524 m (5,000 ft.)

- Addition of stopway areas to the runway for increased safety in case of aborted landings or take offs

- Addition of stopway lighting in accordance with new regulations for increased safety

- Installation of new amber runway lighting to increase safety

- A GPS RNAV precision approach to enable use of the airport during inclement weather ie: Medivac Service 24/7

- Construction of new hangars to accommodate new businesses

Safety is our primary and constant focus at YCW. The addition of runway end stopway areas, as well as installing landing instruments, lighting and cabling will improve safety for the airport community. The runway extension will provide access to a much wider variety of aircraft which brings with it requirements for service and maintenance that the local business community at the airport could provide. As we are at full capacity, construction of 6 new large hangars will begin this spring according to Les Daase of Chilliwack Aviation Park with more hangars being developed by Magnum to meet the growing demand.

The Province of BC Air Access Program and the City of Chilliwack was instrumental last year in providing funding for the removal of an existing hazard located alongside the runway.

We anticipate a reply from the Province within the upcoming weeks for this years project. If all the required approvals are received, the runway extension is expected to begin in the summer and completed by the fall of 2017.
