Obstacle Limitation Surface!

Magnum has been working with the City of Chilliwack to have identified obstacles removed from private property as they are currently perforating the OLS. While some obstacles have yet to be removed, Chilliwack Airport suffers a reduction in available runway length. A Federal Enactment called the Chilliwack Airport Zoning Regulations, which comes under the Aeronautics Act of Canada, governs the allowable heights.

This law has required all privately owned lands surrounding the airport to have a legal caveat placed upon their respective land title at the Land Registry Office. This caveat indicates to the land owner that they must comply with the Aeronautics Act and more particularly, the Chilliwack Airport Zoning Regulations.

The desrciption of the OLS from Transport Canada:

Obstacle Limitation Surface: A surface that establishes the limit to which objects may project into the airspace associated with an aerodrome consisting of the following; a takeoff surface, an approach surface, a transitional surface and an outer surface.

We are hopefull that this matter will be rectified soon with the offending obstacles being lowered or removed, allowing for the full use of the runway surface.
